About Our Refrigeration Plants
Refrigeration plants are essential for the natural gas industry, used to cool a gas stream and reduce its hydrocarbon dew point. This process is critical for maximizing the recovery of valuable natural gas liquids (NGLs) and ensuring the gas meets stringent pipeline quality specifications. Our custom-designed units are engineered to achieve maximum and consistent results for a wide variety of natural gas processing applications.
How Our Systems Work
The refrigeration plants at Credence Gas Services utilize a refrigeration cycle to chill the incoming natural gas. This involves compressing a refrigerant, which then flows through a heat exchanger to cool the natural gas stream. As the gas cools, heavy hydrocarbons condense into liquid NGLs, which are then separated in a cold separator. This process allows us to create a lean gas stream while capturing valuable liquids for storage or further fractionation.
Cooling and Condensation:
Inside a refrigeration skid, the raw natural gas undergoes a cooling process similar to that in a stationary refrigeration unit. A refrigeration cycle is employed, which involves compressing a refrigerant, passing it through a condenser to release heat and liquefy, expanding the liquefied refrigerant through an expansion valve to achieve rapid cooling, and circulating the cooled refrigerant through a heat exchanger to cool the incoming natural gas stream. As the gas cools, its heavier hydrocarbons (NGLs) begin to condense into liquid form.
Separation:
The cooled natural gas stream, now containing condensed NGLs, enters a separation vessel or separator within the mobile skid. In this vessel, the liquid NGLs separate from the remaining natural gas and are collected at the bottom.
Storage or Transportation:
The separated NGLs can be stored temporarily within the mobile skid or transported to another location for further processing or distribution.
Outlet of Treated Gas:
The processed natural gas, now stripped of a portion of its NGL content, exits the mobile refrigeration skid. It may undergo additional treatment or be ready for immediate use or transportation, depending on the specific requirements and regulations.
